In the spring of 2008, a group of old friends, mostly from the 1971 & 1972 NELFTY classes, got together informally in Cleveland. Because it wasn’t publicized widely, it wasn’t really a NELFTY reunion. But it was. And a number of people who heard about it later expressed disappointment, telling us that had they known, they would have come into Cleveland.

For a sense of the spirit that enveloped this get-together in Cleveland, you can view a short video taken after the Sunday brunch, just as everyone was heading back to their cars, planes and homes. Everyone agreed – let’s do it again. And it was decided to arbitrarily center this around the NELFTY classes of 1971 & 1972

Before you ask, why do this in Phoenix? Other than the fact we’ll all spend time at the lovely home of Ruthie Harrison Cohen (NELFTY Songleader 1971), why not?

If you’re on the fence about attending (in other words, you want to see who’s coming first, let us know that, too, and we’ll put you on the “here’s who’s coming to the NELFTY Reunion in Phoenix” list, which will be sent out periodically between now and then.

Arrival in Phoenix for those who can make it in early.

Thursday, April 30, 2009
Depending upon how many are here in town then and would like to go, will visit the Grand Canyon. Our bus will pick us up at your hotel, drive to the Grand Canyon (approx. 4 hours away from Phoenix); we'll look around, have lunch, look around some more then return to Scottsdale. It's a 13-hour day, but if you've never seen the Canyon, it's worth the trip. The bus will have only our group on it so we can chat up and back without interference from strangers.

Friday, May 1, 2009
It's lunch at the Desert Botanical Garden. Along the Garden's desert environment trails will be an exhibit by renowned artist Dale Chihuly. You'll be transported by bus to and from the Garden. Dinner will be out at Reata Pass Steak House for a southwestern-themed cookout. Shabbat will be celebrated prior to dinner.

Saturday, May 2, 2009
It's off to see the Sonoran Desert by Hummers. They'll pick you up at your hotel, show you the beauty of the desert, feed us lunch, then return us from whence we came....about a four-hour excursion. The afternoon is yours to do as you wish. The bus will pick you up that evening and bring you out to Taliesin West, the Frank Lloyd Wright abode. Seeing it at night is no less than magical. Dinner will be served at Chez Cohen in Scottsdale along with Havdalah.

It's hang out time at Chez Cohen for breakfast/lunch/dinner until your plane leaves.
